The 'Horns got hooked by the 'Hawks in Dallas today.
Three freshman and two sophomores as our starters and two sophs and one senior off the bench. In all my many years of watching Kansas basketball, this year has proved to be the most enjoyable. As I said in an earlier post, these Baby Jays have grown up before our eyes. They play the game with pure enjoyment.
In college basketball, so much comes down to coaching. In his third year as coach of the most tradition laden basketball program in the land, Bill Self has demonstrated why he is a great coach. He told us that we would struggle in the beginning of the season. We started the year at three wins and four losses. We have gone 21 and 3 since then. We were co-champions along with Texas in the regular season and today beat the Longhorns for the Big XII Tourney title. Bill Self earned three coach of the year honors in the Big XII this week and should be given serious consideration for national coach of the year.
I saw Bill Self speak when he first became coach of the Jayhawks three years ago. He was so honest and authentic and he is still that way. Unlike some coaches, he doesn't feel the need to speak in cliches and is never afraid to tell it like it is. I like how he handles himself and am very glad he is the head coach of the Kansas basketball program.
If you are a sports fan, the month of March is simply the best time of year. So to my non-sports fan readers, please bear with me for the next three weeks. If you are a casual basketball fan, I hope you get to see the Jayhawks play and you will see why I have enjoyed this season more than any other.
GOOOOOOOOO KU!!!!! The Jayhawks are certainly peaking at just the right time, prospects look very good for a long run in the tournament. I certainly agree, Self is an excellent coach - it's great to have him at Kansas.
